Among the events is the Hunky Jesus contest where you can win a valuable prize if the judges believe you can fulfill the image of Jesus for the coming year. Last year pogosticking Jesus Roky Roulette won (he was carrying a cross and pogosticking onstage). One year the winner didn't even have long or even longish hair.

In the interests of having a hunky Jesus who at least looks the part, long hair and all, I'm reminding everybody to tell their friends about the contest and the anniversary party this coming Sunday.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence celebrate their anniversary each Easter with a party in Dolores Park in San Francisco. The Sisters are for the most part a drag nun group that does serious fundraising for groups that have been left behind and fall through the funding gaps.

At the annual celebration, saints are canonized (people who have done lots of good works over the past year), and there is live entertainment and contests.

One of them is the HUNKY JESUS contest, where a Jesus lookalike can win a $100 cash prize! I'm really really hyping the contest this year because last year there weren't any longhairs there and I think the crown of thorns was won by a dyke with a buzz cut. SACRILEGE!

Anyhow, here's the blurb about the event: http://www.thesisters.org

16 April 2006
The Sisters' 27th Anniversary Celebration
"Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park
Continuing their mission to promulgate Universal Joy, the Sisters are proud to announce "Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park, an Easter picnic and celebration. This very San Francisco event brings together children, families, friends, artists and community activists all on one lawn to celebrate the Sisters' 27th Anniversary and enjoy a day in Dolores Park. This event is free to the public. "Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park promises to be lively and vivacious incorporating stage performances, children's activities and two cash-prize contests. (Performers TBA)

Sister MaryMae, this year's chair of "Perpetual Indulgence" in the Park, says "We have all of the old favorites, the Hunky Jesus Contest, the Bonnet Contest, Grants Giveaways and Saintings, but we are planning a lot of surprises and fun new tricks. The best thing about the Sisters' Birthday Celebration is that there is something for everyone. It's a true family day, from the kids events in the morning, picnicking in the park and ending with the more risqué things like the Hunky Jesus and Bonnet Contests. It's one of the few times you really can make everyone happy."

At 1p, participants will line up to parade across the stage in their Easter finest for our Bonnet Contest. Later, at 3:15p, this year's Hunky Jesus will be chosen. Both winners will receive a $100 cash prize.

In addition to providing an afternoon of merriment, the Sisters also hope to raise money for a whole year of grants awards.

Dolores Park is at 18th and Dolores Streets in SF, on the J church streeetcar line and the 33 Stanyan trolley bus line.
I decided to grow my hair long when I came out of the closet at age 42. Sort of a rite of passage. Maybe having the maturity that we get as we age makes it easier to recognize methods of social control and to pick and choose which ones we wish to follow.

Since I am attracted to men with long hair (not exclusively of course) I figured that it would help if I grew my hair long too. Happily I figured correctly.

I have gotten and invite to a really interesting site. It is called Catch 27 and in stead of building your profile and then chatting and posting and possibly making new friends (like we do here and which i love by the way)...you profile becomes a playable, tradeable card in someones pack. You can trade you friends for better friends, you see the hot boy you want, trade for him...
Its sick, its evil, its wrong on so many levels...and yet WAY too much FUN!!!! Oh ya and if you get a pack of 27 cards that are similar in some way, you can submit it for prizes which range form bottles of nailpolish to PSP's and i-pods....awesome...Ok, enough rambling, i would like to see more real freaks and geeks over there...its free so hit the link and come play with me!
Flowing Locks ...
Simon Sheppard
Gay.com/PlanetOut.com Network
10 December, 2001
more articles by Simon Sheppard
"Give me a head with hair -- long, beautiful hair," says a decades-old song.

Before the 1960s, longish hair on men signified dubious masculinity. Though the Beatles and the hippies changed that, making extensive tresses stylish for straights, too, it's hard for younger gay men to understand the symbolic value long hair held for a whole generation of homos. In the late '60s and early '70s, when modern gay radicalism was born, long hair spoke of nonconformism, sensuality and a challenge to rigid gender norms. "I remember," says one middle-aged man, now nearly bald, "how sexy and free I felt with all my long hair swirling around."

Time passes, fashions change. Among young gays, rebellious hippie hairdos gave way to butch short cuts. But some guys still love long locks because, among other things, hair makes them hard. Says fortyish Paul, "I find it difficult to explain why I find long hair a turn-on. Like guys who are turned on by leather or skinheads, it just is. It could be called a fetish, but it seems broader than that."

After all, longer hair can be a sensual delight. Says one tough-looking top with a liking for long locks, "I love to see a naked guy lying in bed with his hair like a halo on the pillow. And hey, when a long-haired man gives me head, I have something to grab onto -- I use his hair like a leash to guide his mouth."

But though we're a community that's supposed to celebrate diversity, it seems many queer guys wear the badge of the fashion police. Says Paul, "I sometimes run into men who have a negative attitude toward me and others with long locks. They make comments like, 'You should get a skinhead; the '60s are over.' And all the advertisements in gay publications feature men with very short hair or shaved heads. Don't the people doing the ads realise that not all of us have the same taste in men?"

Perhaps part of the problem is that over the years, long hair has often been associated with groups that don't seem very queer: heavy-metal bands, professional wrestlers, mullet-wearing het bozos, the Grateful Dead. But maybe some of it has to do with the changing self-definition of many gays: less rebellious now, less gender-bending. And long hair on men is a marker of a generation that's gotten middle-aged and thus, supposedly, less sexy.

"I know this is not a major issue, more of a minor annoyance, " Paul continues. "But I've even had friends tell me that they prefer longer hair, but have cut theirs to 'fit in.'" So one day, after watching a TV documentary on the early days of gay parades, noticing how diverse the crowds looked, Paul decided to take hair-roots, er, grass-roots action. He founded a group called Queers Who Shun Shears. A dozen longhaired men got involved, planning to march in Pride parades and start a Web site.

One thing's for certain, though. Trends may come and go, but fetishism marches on. At least one gay fetish Web site has pages of pictures of naked longhairs, right next to pics of foot fanciers and bound-up bottoms. And, as the tough top points out, hair can be a fetishistic sex toy: "There's so much more you can do with long hair than with a skinhead. I like to have my feet massaged with hair or wrap it around my erection. Feels great."

Remember, many fashions get recycled; yesterday's castoffs are tomorrow's hot styles. So don't throw away that old hairbrush; like chinos and platform shoes, long, silken, below-the-shoulders hair and bushy Afros may make their reappearance sooner than you think. And in the meantime, Paul and his pals are getting stiff when they see long, beautiful hair.

A resource we might be able to enjoy has become available to me. There is a beautiful location I know of not far from San Diego and not far from Los Angeles where we could all meet and hang out. We could plan to be there for a weekend or a week or two. We can camp and there is a house we can stay in as well. We can have a sound system but I'm partial to silence and/or entirely non-electric instruments.

Cost is relative to how long we stay and what we plan to do there. My personal hope is that we can simple create a retreat space and enjoy each other's company and get to know each other better. The owner of the property is open and flexible. I should expect that we manage to give him something on par with rent for two weeks if we do manage to plan it for the extended stay (my preference) but I'm just putting this out there so y'all and maybe help me figure out what we want to do and figure out how many people might come.

My hope for a longer retreat is that we'll get more people from all over the world there.

Catchya later,

I am passing this on:

PLEASE PLEASE HELP....HE HAS GIVEN US ALL SO MUCH...

Subject: Ram Dass

Please read it over, and if you are so moved, respond to Dr. Wayne
Dyer's request.

BE HERE for him, NOW drwaynedyer.com/articles/

One of the truly great men of our time needs our help. I write these
words to encourage your generosity and support. Back in the 1960's a
Harvard professor named Richard Alpert left behind the hectic world
of academia and business and traveled to India- there he was to meet
his spiritual teacher who gave him a new purpose to fulfill along with a
new name. He is of course Ram Dass.

His guru told him love everyone, feed people and see God everywhere.
Ram Dass became a person who lived out this mandate - he did what so
many of us could only dream. He connected to his spirit and devoted his
life to serving others.

In 1969 he wrote and published the signature book on spirituality
and applied higher awareness, Be Here Now. In keeping with his
commitment to love everyone and feed people, he donated all of the royalties
and profits to a foundation that did, and does just that. With millions
of dollars at stake, Ram Dass simply chose to live his life as a man of
service to God. After years spent in India in pursuit of a higher more
enlightened consciousness for himself and for our troubled world, he
returned to the United States to lecture throughout the country. He
spoke to packed venues wherever he went, and as always he donated
the proceeds to such causes as would keep him in harmony with his
mandate to serve. He co-founded the Seva Foundation ( www.seva.org )
where all of the monies were earmarked to fulfill his mission. Ram Dass and his
writing and lecture fees were the primary sources for this inspirational work.

To me Ram Dass was and is the finest speaker I have ever heard, period!
He was my role model on stage; always gentle and kind, always
speaking without notes from his heart, sharing his inspiring stories and
always with great humor. I tell you this from my own heart; I could listen
to his lectures for hours and always felt saddened when they would end.
He was the voice for Applied Spirituality - his life was the model. When he was
threatened by having his own private sexual preference exposed, in a time when a
closet was the only place that was even mildly safe, Ram Dass called a press
conference and proudly announced his preference to the world. He is a hero to
everyone who ever lived in fear of any kind of spiteful exposure. He paved the way
for tolerance and love when no one else would dare to do so. Most of us could only
dream of defying the conventional life and living out our inner callings to promote a
cause that was bigger than our own lives - to leave the security of a
guaranteed career - to leave a country where comfort was ensured; all to live in a
foreign land with few conveniences, traveling and meditating for a more peaceful
world. It is what St. Francis did in the 13th century and what Ram Dass did in our
lifetime.

When Ram Dass' own father, who had largely criticized his son's passion as well as
his unconventional lifestyle, was close to death, Ram Dass devoted himself to 100%
service in those final years. He fed his father, he bathed his father, he placed him on
and off the toilet until the day he died. Why? Because he felt this was his mandate. He
wanted to experience true service on a 24/7 basis and know firsthand the joy that
comes from giving one's own life away in the service of others.
Always, for over 30 years, Ram Dass was in the service of others.

In 1997 Ram Dass was struck by a semi-paralyzing stroke and was forced to live in a
wheelchair. Still he wrote of his adventure in a powerful book titled, Still Here. He
continued to travel, though he could no longer walk, and continued to speak to
audiences, though he spoke from a slowed down body but still he did it to serve
others.

Now it is our turn... Ram Dass' body can no longer endure the rigors of travel. He has
come to Maui, where I live and write. I speak with him frequently and I am often
humbled by the tears in his beautiful 73-year-old eyes as he apologizes for not having
prepared for his own elderly health care - for what he now perceives as burdensome to
others. He still intends to write and teach; however without the travel - we can now
come to Maui's healing - Maui is where Ram Dass wishes to stay for now! He is
currently living in a home on Maui, which he doesn't own and is currently in jeopardy
of losing.
I am asking all of you to help purchase this home and to set up a financial foundation
to take care of this man who has raised so much money to ensure the futures of so
many others. No one is more deserving of our love and financial support. In the end
these donations will help ensure that Ram Dass and his work will reach another
generation or remind a current generation that it is in giving that we receive.

If there has ever been a great spirit who lived in our lifetime, literally devoting his life
to the highest principles of spirit, it has been Ram Dass. I love this man; he has been
my inspiration and the inspiration for millions of us. It is now time to show him how
we feel by doing what he has taught all of us to do - Just , BE HERE for him, NOW.

Please send your donations to: Ram Dass c/o Hay House P.O. Box 5100 Carlsbad, CA 92018

In love and light,
(signed) Wayne Dyer

The issue is that CBS will not air this church's ad because they find the ad to be offensive. A link to the ad is available through the link above.

I'm not Christian but this is ridiculous for CBS to disallow. Although, in so doing they've done more service for the church than they would have had they simply aired it quietly.

I'm curious. There seems to be quite a few of us around. Is it possible that there are enough of us to actually make a space for ourselves? A space where anyone that likes us can find us and where we can be comfortable being ourselves.

I used to find this space at coffee houses but they've mostly gone commercial and the few that haven't were swallowed up by square straights, or even more square gays.

If we were to put something together:

Where would we put it?
What would the point of it be?
How would we fund it?
How visible do we want it to be?
How would we counteract the inevitable drama and/or taking over by non-haired?
For that matter, how would we combat our own drama?
Would we be political?
Would (or maybe I should use the word ~could~) we be inclusive?

I'm really interested in doing ~something~ proactive and I'm constantly finding myself frustrated by the apathetic responses. I usually get something like, "Wow that's a great idea, I'm 100% behind you." The problem is when it comes to actually putting something together, researching what is required, or even coughing up some capital to make it happen, nobody is around. Hopefully I will share my visions with someone who can help me see some of them through.

My hair is literally two feet long measured from my head straight out to the side with a tape measure. I did it alone and I haven't brushed my hair so I may be off a few inches or so but that's a close enough measurement for me and I think sufficient to illustrate how long my hair actually is. It does, literally reach my waist.
"The president received between 21% and 23% of the GLBT vote, about same percentage he received in the 2000 election, according to data from CNN and The Washington Post. Challenger John Kerry received a slightly higher percentage of votes from gay Americans than Gore did four years ago, according to the numbers--77% versus the 70% that were cast for Gore in 2000. As in the previous race, about 4% of voters identified as GLBT. Kerry picked up more votes from those who voted for independent Ralph Nader in 2000."

I was not suprised. 20% is what I expected.

I have for the last decade been working on what I call the One in Five Rule.

20% of any given population "get it." Wether it be about racism, class, the enviroment ect One in Five "Get It". They see with right away how the issue effects them and others. Wether those Others are part of there community or not.

The rest of the 60% are the folks for whom leadership matters.

My issue for the last two years has been not "How are we going to win when so many of us vote againts there self interest?"

My question has been;
"Why is the Queer Left Leadership so uninspiring?"

LAst week on election Day I started a series on my radio show about that question.

How about ya'll? Why is the Left in general and the Queer Left Specificly so uninspiring to me?

His name was Anthony Thipedeaux, he was my 1st grade girlfriend's cousin. I remember one day playing with her at recess...ah remember recess. Anyway, he came over and teasingly said, 'leave my cousin alone."

It was another realization somewhat because as he walked away I looked at him kinda the way I looked at her but there was a little bit of a stronger pull that I knew was somewhat different. But also I noticed his shoulder length red hair.

Interestingly enough all of my boyfriends have all had short hair. Although two of them I saw pictures of them when they were younger and had much longer hair. One of my ex's well he did grow it long...and when did he do that...when we weren't together anymore ha ha.

So that's my first recollection...and other first recollections or when you started to really notice you liked long hair on men.

I think when I kinda consciously knew I liked it was in high school and my boyfriend had longish hair and just noticed I was looking more at the boys with long hair than not.

Tea and Crumpets can be arranged the same day for those members of this tribe disinterested in the later festivities....

In order for this tribe to work out we'll need to have more people involved. I'm thinking that if we all pull in a couple more people we should start seeing some activity. The alternative is that we start talking to each other.

Some ideas for conversations:

Have you had any issues with having long hair and being gay?
If you're not gay have you had issues with gay men because you have long hair?
What is you favorite part about having long hair?
Why do you keep it long even though there is immense social pressure to have it short?
Is your hair long enough to touch your weiner?
How do you normally wear your hair in public?
What do you do with your hair when you're having sex?

There are millions more I'm sure but I was just tossing out some ideas.

Hope to see some activity.

I would like to meet all kinds of people from all over the place. I travel allot and like to know people wherever i go. BUT, in most cases, i probably would not message or add someone first. So if you check out my prof. and dig it let me know, i would love to have new friends to chat with.

Here's what i am looking for in my dating circle...though nothing is set in stone it will give you an idea of what I look out for... ;-)

BOYS (18-35-maturity is more important than age but also must like to play once in a while)who are interested in making new friends, chatting, hooking up for long conversations over POTS of coffee, online boughts of insanity, or partying like rockstars. Goth,Punk,Long hair, Hippiy, all pluses but i never judge a book by its cover. My job has me traveling allot at the moment but ideally i am looking for a LTR with the specail someone (man)
